ICLOCKWORK
- PERMANENT UK DETACHMENT
An English
detachment is stationed at Bardufoss, for permanent training purposes. |
Ofcourse they also cooperate with the
Norwegian Airforce when ever and where ever needed. |
Also the facilities of the Bardufoss base
are used. |
Our visitday is a very busy flying day,
also a very 'snowy' one... Pilots come and go, even female ! |
There's no difference, being a female
pilot you have to do the same jobs under the same circumstances. |
On such a flying day helicopters fly
almost all day, only the crews change according to their schedules. |
Commander Dave West gave us a
presentation about his units, he had to taste our 'special Dutch pilots-brew'
:-) |
Soldiers on march for training, they will
be flown into high mountains and low temperatures.... |
The UK detachment is fully self
supporting, even as it comes to refuelling. |
Most used is the Sea-King helicopter, for
transports and medevac flights. |
It's an aged type of helicopter, but
still very stabile and capable for the jobs on land and at sea. |
So many lives have been saved by this
machine and crews, picked up out of sea and in all kinds of situations. |
Mostly this work is more and more the
task of this kind of defence forces, SAR and support by disasters. |
Though still operational, the NH-90 will
more and more replace the older and other types. |
So as long as possible: Let's enjoy these
remarquable views. |
By refuelling the Sea Kings, we come to
the end of this chapter of Commander Dave West's deployment. |
